Email Templates

Email Templates

Templates are the starting point for great marketing emails, keeping you on-brand for every message you send. Email templates are pre-built email layouts that include content like images or text. Instead of designing a new email from scratch each time, save time and effort by using a template as a base.

The Templates page displays all your saved templates so you can edit them at any time.

When you select a template to use as the starting point for a new email, feel free to make changes as needed. Don't worry, your changes will only be applied to that email, they don't affect the original template.

Creating a New Email Template

If you haven't created any email templates yet, you'll see a list of options to do so when you click the Templates page. Start a new one by selecting one of the options:

Start from scratch: This is the "blank slate" option, free from preset styles, layouts or other customizations. Use the email builder to build a fully customized template.
Choose a design: This is a library of predesigned emails including placeholder text and images to provide a starting point for your template.
Choose from your recent emails: This option is only displayed if you've previously used the email builder. It's a quick way to generate a template from a previous email that includes content sections you use regularly, making it easier to create new campaigns.
Upload your own HTML: This option is not related to email builder templates. Choose this to upload custom coded email templates.

Customizing Email Templates

The template customization tools are very similar to those found in the email builder, with the exception of email settings, which are used to apply default styles for fonts, font sizes, and various template element colors.

Default Styles

While you can set the default styles for a template, and even create predefined sections for other teammates to use, anyone that selects the template for their email still has the ability to override styles at the content-level.

The following styles can be overridden within a section:

  • Headings 1 - 3
  • Normal text
  • Button color
  • Button text (excluding "Share this email" buttons in the footer)
  • Text link color (excluding header and footer links)

Want to keep others from editing your default styles? No problem, you can use section locking to restrict what a person can edit in a template.

Section Locking

You can lock sections and content in a template so certain changes can't be made. For example, you can use this feature to provide a consistently branded call to action, an approved layout, legal text that shouldn't be edited, or background images that shouldn't be changed.

Use a Saved Template to Send an Email

After you set up a template, it can be used in the email builder to create campaigns or journey emails.

To use a saved email template, click My Templates when prompted on the Choose a starting point page.

14. Enter an email to receive a confirmation email when the campaign is sent.

2. Select the option to Delete.

3. Confirm your choice.
